Tonight's impressions

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-31 - 01:15:45

Well, I finished the North & South DVD that I borrowed off Cheryl and really enjoyed it. At least it had a happy ending, I was beginning to think it wouldn't have.

The streets were fairly peaceful in terms of trouble tonight, lots of people, lots of milling about and lots of shrieking girls but generally a calm and civil atmosphere. I didn't really enjoy it as much as usual. It really grieves me to see so many young and definately underage girls wearing next to nothing and coming out of all the bars and pubs rather worse for wear and out of control. Not knowing where they are and what they are doing, all rather vulnerable and available to the undesirables. This has always bothered me and was one reason I felt so passionate about joining up as a Street Pastor, but tonight it has troubled me a lot more than usual.

John & Kelly's Day Out

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-31 - 01:01:34

This was taken a fortnight ago, but John & Kelly have been there today and taken John's Mum, the sun shone for them though!

Weekend ahead

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-30 - 07:52:11

Not sure what the weather is gonna do this weekend. Hopefully the sun will shine tomorrow afternoon and I will be able to get in the garage and clear it all out.  Also, loads of paperwork to do, so if it rains thats the alternative! How exciting does that sound? Still, these things need to be done. I'm hoping to have a lie in and maybe even a walk into town too to meet a friend for coffee. The evening will be spent chillin' in front of the TV.

Am looking forward to Sunday. The young people are leading the evening service and it's always good to encourage them and see them taking a lead. We have a great preacher too and I'm looking forward to what will be a challenging message I'm sure.

Quiet

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-29 - 23:39:49

It's really quiet here. John, Kelly and my mother-in-law have all gone over to France for a few days to the house. I couldn't get any more time off work and so am staying put this side of the channel this weekend. Still no Amy back so have been all alone tonight. It's amazing how much you get done when there's no one else around! I've sorted out the washing, enjoyed a lovely dinner, (my own little Shepherds pie cooked by Kelly as she knew I'd be one my own!), totally emptied my inbox and filed all my emails etc (amazing), hoovered, downloaded loadsa music and podcasts to my ipod and watched 2 episodes of North & South that I borrowed from Cheryl. I really enjoyed them but will have to watch the other two before I go out street pastoring tomorrow night. It is rather addictive viewing, but I'm gonna be sensible and go to bed instead of starting another one now!!!

Weekend News

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-26 - 11:37:29

Well we went to Brighton and had a fab evening at the album launch party - fantastic music, all so relaxed and informal - very enjoyable and the new album 'Promised Land' is great. I think my favourite track is 'Mercy from the throne'. She sang all the tracks off the new album and explained the story behind them and also a couple off the last CD too.

Not much sleep followed as we went to collect the boys from Heathrow at 5.45am, they both looked well and have thoroughly enjoyed their adventure, both have burnt noses though!! Looked through lots of pics and watched the video footage - rather them than me. Had a pretty relaxed afternoon and then went to see Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull - I thought it was good and action-packed but the others all thought it wasn't as good as the others, not being able to remember the others I guess I had nothing to compare it to!!

Yesterday we had a house full as Kelly had 2 friends stay for the weekend after a trip to Thorpe Park on Saturday. The delicious roast dinner I was looking forward to went down well, must be several weeks since we all had a roast together, still no Amy though.

Today, it's miserable out there, the weather is pants and so therefore there'll be no trip to the zoo! However, it gives me the opportunity to catch up on some paperwork etc so all is not lost and the tomato plants could do with a water so it saves me the hassle.

Days Ahead

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-22 - 21:37:21

Exciting weekend ahead and a long one too! Cheryl and I are off to a launch party in Brighton tomorrow night for Lou Fellingham's new album. Never been to one before and so am quite excited - looking forward to the new album. Saturday the intrepid explorers need picking up at 6.45am from Heathrow, so an early start. Be nice to have John home and see all the pics etc and catch up after 10 days. Amy says she's popping in to see us so that'll be good too. Then in the evening it's off to see Indiana Jones in action! Sunday will be church and I'm looking forward to a nice roast dinner as we all get back into a routine etc, well three of us anyway! Monday, well - it depends on the weather - fancy a trip to the zoo but will see whether the sun's gonna shine on us, don't fancy getting wet! John's working in the morning so maybe we could go to London Zoo! Anyway, not gonna let anything spoil a three day weekend, it should be good!!

Kili news

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-21 - 07:30:16

Text message received early this morning to say that John and Hamish had both summitted Kilimanjaro. Both were in good shape, weather and conditions good too - all they need to do now is get down safely! What a relief, all the effort paid off and now loads of children will benefit from the sponsor money they raised. Praise God!! No doubt, there'll be loads of video footage and pics to look at. Roll on Saturday when they return home!!

Doors of Mont St Michel

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-19 - 07:45:12

People love different things and I love doors. There were so many to see in Mont St Michel - here are some of them........red ones, wooden ones, long ones, wide ones, narrow ones etc. So much history behind them.

2 Doors  Another red door

Kili boys, France & Weekend

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-18 - 23:10:38

It's been an unusual week, I was really busy at work on Monday and Tuesday, and really busy here at home trying to get John sorted for his Kili trip. I dropped him and Hamish at the airport on Wednesday and so they have gone to do their long awaited, epic climb. They were like 2 excited little school boys, although there was certainly an element of anxiety in John as to whether or not the altitude would get the better of him. I hope and pray not. The fundraising for Smile International http://www.smileinternational.org/latest.htm has gone well and the money raised will go a long way to feed the many orphans and help the communities they work with in troubled Zimbabwe.

On Thursday, Cheryl and I set out for France to enjoy a few days away. We visited Honfleur on the way down, visited Mont St Michel on Friday and St Lo market on Saturday before getting the ferry home last night. It was lovely to be away over there and not do any painting or decorating, just to enjoy the place and the peace and quiet, even being beaten at scrabble and backgammon didn't matter!!

Today, we had a Family Service and Lunch and some great teaching. I have to say that the last 2 weeks' services have been superb - really special to me, uplifting and encouraging, just what I needed, and when I needed it - God's timing is great.

Last week was all about light and momentary troubles (2 Cor 4v17) achieving for us an eternal glory. I've been thinking a lot recently about how much easier things would be if Christ just came again now, I could go to Heaven to be with Him, but that isn't really the answer, although it'd be great. Then in the evening service we learnt about the Holy Spirit, (Titus 3 v4-8) how it's given to us all, part of our salvation, given generously and gives us true hope. My hope is in Christ, and by the Holy Spirit I can face the things that life here and now throws at me. Yes, I'm an heir of Christ and one day I'll be in Heaven but I must live life here and now in the light of what is to come, for God's glory.

This morning's service was about Mary, Martha and Lazarus and the fact that God doesn't always work how we expect him to, or do what we ask or think he should do. He has a plan and we don't always see the big picture. He doesn't love us any less or leave us to our own devices, He always fulfills his purposes. This was a great reminder to me that God is in control of all things. Tonight we were challenged about being Light in this world (Matt 5 v14-16)- another reminder. I hope that throughout this week, my light will shine brighter than it has for the past 6 weeks or so, so that Christ will be praised and glorified.

John text me earlier to say that they were safely at Camp 4, 4250m high and all ok. Only 2000m to go! I'm hoping they'll both stay well and that Wednesday, Summit Day will soon be here and successful!

Glorious Morning

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-12 - 08:46:13

Well, it was a fantastic start to the day. Glorious sunshine and a very pleasant walk to and from the station to work, listening to a brilliant compilation/melody by Robin Mark that lifted my spirit and left me feeling totally renewed and ready for the day and all it offers.

Amazing Grace/No Not By Might/Are You Washed?

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we'd first begun.

No, not by might, nor even power,
But by your spirit O Lord.
Healer of hearts, Binder of wounds,
Lives that are lost, restore
Flow through this land, Till every man
Praises Your name once more.

No, not by might, nor even power,
But by your spirit O Lord.
Healer of hearts, Binder of wounds,
Lives that are lost, restore
Flow through this land, Till every man
Praises Your name once more.

Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the lamb?
Are your garments spotless, are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the lamb?

Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the lamb?
Are your garments spotless, are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the lamb?

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

weekend happenings

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-09 - 20:53:26

The end of another week. My thick head is clearing and sore throat getting better, just in time for a busy weekend. I even slept better last night - 6 hours undisturbed or uninterrupted - amazing, fantastic!

Tonight I'm off out street pastoring in town and also again tomorrow night in London as it's Pentecost weekend and there are loads of events happening all over London put on by various charities, organisations and churches, with the finale at Millwall Football Stadium on Sunday where the Global Day of Prayer will be happening. It was fantastic last year to be part of a huge gathering of all different people, denominations, nationalities etc all meeting to worship and praise God together and to pray for the Worldwide Church as well as each other and the local church.

We also have a family birthday meal tomorrow lunchtime for John's Mum and it will be good to all be together again.

So, here goes for another busy one............

Sunny Long Weekend

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-06 - 00:18:23

We had a quiet weekend this weekend, just the two of us for most of it.

Friends over for dinner on Friday night and a lie in on Saturday, (very rare). As it was such a lovely day we decided that we'd spend the day out and do the jobs etc on Monday (delay tactics really!). We went out for a drive all along the coast road from Hythe round to Bexhill. We stopped off at St Mary's Bay which looked really sandy and appealing, promising ourselves to go back later this summer, we drove through through lovely Rye, Winchelsea and Icklesham which were really rather nice, and stopped off in Hastings for a couple of hours for a wander and some lunch. As it was May Bank Holiday weekend there were loads of men and women in Morris Dancing garb, lots of whistles and bells and dancing etc, loud gongs and drums. Many of the shops, pubs and restaurants were all decorated with ribbons and leaves - must be customary! It all made for some interesting entertainment. We then drove through St Leonards and on into Bexhill where we got out and came across some more dancing - tap dancing! It was a lovely afternoon, fantastic weather and not too many cars on the roads. John even got the picture he wanted of the car in a field of rapseed! We spent the evening watching the snooker and tucking in to my first attempt at Croque Monsieur - not too bad, even if I do say so myself!

Church on Sunday morning was fantastic, all about HOPE, heaven and eternity, just what I needed to hear, something to lift the spirit! We had friends over again for lunch and after they had gone an opportunity to relax and catch up with some of the snooker final. Again, the evening service was good and followed by communion - a time of reflection.

John did a night shift so slept this morning, which gave me the opportunity to go into town on my own and potter round for a while. I then popped in to my brother's for a cup of tea and chat and caught up with them. After lunch we went to Homebase to get a few bits and then spent the afternoon cracking on all with all the chores. We now have a washed and polished car, a clear garden, a pressure washed front drive, clear patio, empty flower tubs (ready for planting), herbs planted and lots of rubbish to get rid of!
All in all very productive! What a difference a day of sunshine makes.

Three of us in for dinner, a chance to catch up with Kelly and an evening of snooker, Fantastic!

Faithful One

by RacyTracy @ 2008-05-05 - 23:59:35

The last couple of weeks have been tough and I've struggled to keep focused on God and His plans for me, my family and the future. I'm so thankful for the reminder this weekend though of all that God has done for me, for my salvation in Jesus Christ and for the fact that one day all life's troubles will be over and I'll be forever praising God somewhere far far better. Although there are these temporary clitches that come along every so often, and although I fail miserably many times to trust God, to pray, and to rely totally on Him, He remains faithful and trustworthy. My hope is in Him for now and for the future. As I contemplated this, these words sprung to mind from a song we sing every so often.

Faithful One

Faithful One so unchanging
Ageless One You’re my rock of peace
Lord of all I depend on You
I call out to You, again and again
I call out to You, again and again

You are my rock in times of trouble
You lift me up when I fall down
All through the storm
Your love is the anchor
My hope is in You alone
